For this week, I am pretty impressed by the reading of “Bill of Rights for People of Mixed Heritage”, written by Maria P. P. Root. To be more specific, this reading could basically be understood as a poem because even though the article is pretty short, but every word and every sentence in it has its own meaning to convey. In other words, this is such a strengthful and meaningful poem. In detail, the author used the first person to view writing this poem, so in every line, she used “I have the right to or not to” to start her sentence, which makes the readers have a feeling of the mixed-race people also have the right to choose what they want to do or don’t want to do. In addition, from the content that the author wrote “I have the right to create a vocabulary to communicate about being multiracial or multiethnic”, it is clear to see that the author is truly proud of who she is and believe that everyone in this world should have the same right, and the multiracial people are not an exception either.
Accordingly, after reading this poem, I am very happy to know that the multiracial people themselves are confident and ambitious because that is the way how they should be. Everyone in this world should be proud of their races like this because we are all the same. For those people who are not confident about their races, it is time to understand the greatness of your race because people would only appreciate you unless you appreciate yourself in the first place.
