This week we were inspired by the portion of the readings that pertained to the legality of interracial relationships. We wanted to focus on the clash of cultures in a multicultural upbringing and the lasting effect on the child. Aside from the legality of interracial relationships in past times, we also wanted to acknowledge the psychological tendency of humans to prefer categorizing most things.
We made a Venn diagram showing the bubbles of Asian, Desi, and White cultures mixing and becoming "Wasian,", "Chindian," and "Windian," all terms for the mixing of two particular races in mixed communities, and when all three combine, result in a "confused upbringing."
We realize that many challenges in multicultural households likely result from the lack of such when it was illegal for races to mix. When children are raised in a confused household, they become confused themselves. Thus, this may be the most probable cause of some mixed people to take on people's perceptions of them: becoming sex symbols and subject to objectification from society.
This was not a good effort by any means. It looks incomplete.
