For this week, I have paid most of my attention to the reading of “From Dust to Gold: The Vietnamese Amerasian Experience”. In the reading, it has described the harsh conditions that the Amerasian have been suffered. To be more specific, these Amerasian are the descendants of Vietnamese and American, so they are actually the mixed race people. However, due to the War and the consequence after the war, these mixed-race descendants were biased by people from both countries, Vietnam and the United States. The fathers of these mixed race kids returned back to the United States, so it had left these kids no choice but to stay in Vietnam with their mothers, which made these kids have no love from their natural fathers. In addition, due to the war, these kids and their mothers received serious discrimination from the Vietnam society and even had some unfair treatment in public as well. However, by the time these mixed-race descendants had the chance to go to America, their situations still did not change to a positive state. Some of the kids were not able to find their fathers, and even though they found their fathers, they did not recognize and accept them. What’s more, the Ameican society seemed to have discrimination towards them as well, like these mixed-race descendants were not able to receive the refugee program and help from the government. Therefore, it is clear to see that the situation for these Amerasian is truly not easy.
Accordingly, I have deep compassion for these Amerasian descendants because they had the bias and discrimination from the whole society once they were born. It is so unfair to these Amerasian people because they have not done anything wrong. Thus, I truly hope one day the world could understand that all nations and races on earth are the same and accept the differences in all races.
