Kaining Huang ASA115 Week 3 reading blog
In this week's reading, we focus on the topic of hybridity and the social problems related to them. In the reading "The Historical Problemization of 'Mixed Race' in Psychological and Human-Scienctific Discourses, Thomas Theo discusses about historical event of attempting to prove the inferiority of hybrid. According to Thomas, the problem of Mixed race should be considered to be a social, science, and historical problem. His statement reminds me a lot of cases happening in my home country China. In Chinese history, racial discrimination never thrive in any dynasties nor now. Chinese tend to treat every races equally based on what they do. However, mixed race people are suffering from bias especially during wartime. People who are not pure blooded are considered different and even dangerous according to the point of the society. The romance of couples of difference races is often referred to impossible matchups. The social attitude towards mixed race people somehow confuses me that why people discriminate mixed race people and when such an attitude begins and develops since it is a historical problem. I have to say that it is extremely difficult to eradicate the discrimination of mixed race people, what we could do is to convince as many people as we could that everyone is equal. My question is that how do we take care of mixed race friends' feelings if they are mistreated by other people?
