Week 2 Presentation

For this week's presentation, we focused on Kip Fulbeck's photo gallery " Part Asian, 100% Hapa: A Retrospective" and Michele Elam, Ellen Oh, and Jeff Chang's "Beyond the Face: A Pedagogical primer for Mixed Race Art and Social Engagement." Inspired by the photo gallery, we plan to discuss the perspective of the people showcased in the publication as well as how it is nearly impossible to know the races just based on appearances of half Asian peoples.

From the second reading, we plan to discuss the impact that displaying art inspired by multiple cultures may have from being shown on university campuses. We plan to discuss the positive (and negative) impact of showing these works in a time where most universities have students who are mostly mono-racial with an increasing number of mixed race students. We will also discuss the current state of the UC system, where most campus have around 40% of students who are of Asian descent.
